Poser 12 Update: Mac version enters beta testing

Poser 12 for Mac now includes the upgraded Cycles render engine and Python3 scripting. It has been merged into the main development branch, is now in dev testing and should be available to beta testers later this week, said Tim Choate, Bondware president and CEO.

From this point forward, both Windows and Mac versions should benefit from any improvements to core code. The Mac version will be released to the public once it clears dev and beta testing. Timeframe is late December or early January.

What's new in Poser 12 for Mac?

Mac users can expect the same great new features found in the latest Poser 12, including all the recent updates.

Poser 12 includes updates to several core technologies that have evolved significantly over the five years since the last major Poser release. This includes the SuperFly (Cycles) render engine and the Python embedded scripting language.

Mac users can expect the same great new features found in the latest Poser 12 for Windows, including all the recent updates. Poser 12 includes updates to several core technologies that have evolved significantly over the five years since the last major Poser release. This includes the SuperFly (Cycles) render engine and the Python embedded scripting language.

With Poser 12, the legendary software pulls ahead of the competition with a new version of SuperFly, which is based on the most up-to-date of the version of Blender's Cycles render engine. Mac users will see improved render times, mostly from new Cycles algorithm improvements such as Adaptive Sampling that automatically cuts off computation when no further visual improvement is likely.

Another feature affecting render times is a PostFX option to denoise or smooth an image rendered with lower rendering settings. This can significantly reduce time requirements for busy images or animation sequences.

Also new in the Mac version are the built-in PostFX operations to adjust exposure and saturation on rendered images without leaving Poser. More PostFX operations will be coming to this area over time.

Finally, this version will mark the introduction on Mac of Poser 12's new library system that brings automatic installation of included and purchased content. This means you can easily install the bonus content that is included when you purchase a Poser 12 license as well as content purchased from the Renderosity Marketplace. But that doesn't mean you can't organize your content the way you like or install from ZIP.

Like the Windows version, the initial versions of Poser 12 for Mac will be "Early Access" meaning that users can purchase and use Poser 12 prior to the final release. Just like with early access to video games, "Early Access" customers will receive upgrade notifications periodically until features are finalized.

The latest update to Poser, version 12.0.323, includes bug fixes and replacing the "Tear Off" button with an "Export Image" button to the PostFx palette to replace it.
